1.       Course calendar and assignments

The course calendar and assignments are attached.  It is your responsibility to read the appropriate material before it is discussed in class.  This will enable you to ask questions on things that you do not understand.

2.       Laboratory

      HALLIWELLPHYSICS 142 LABORATORY CD -REQUIRED

The laboratory is an integral part of the course, and each section has corresponding labs.  It is not possible to register for one lecture/discussion section and a different lab.

Attendance at all lab meetings and submission of completed lab reports are mandatory.  If the lab requirement is not completed, a failing grade will be assigned.

Lab experiments are intended to reinforce the course material. Obviously, the lab instructions should be read before the lab period.

Laboratory time is to be utilized fully by activities such as taking data, performing analysis, and preparing reports.  Students may not leave before the end of the scheduled lab period unless they have submitted completed reports.

Late reports lose 10% (out of 100%) for each day late; reports more than one week late will not be accepted.

3.       Homework

Homework assignments will be collected on the due dates, and will be graded and returned.  Solutions must be easy to be read and complete, with all steps shown.  Clear, fully-labeled diagrams must be included, and units should be inserted along with numerical values.  Problems are to be arranged in the order assigned.

4.       Examinations

            Two examinations will be given.

            Quizzes will also be given.

5.       Grades

The final course grade will be determined by the following weighting scheme:

                                    Midterm exam:                          35%

                                    Final exam:                               35%

                                    Laboratory:                               10%

                                    Quizzes:                                    10%

                                    Homework:                               10%

                                                                                    100%

It is very likely that one question from the lab experiments and one from (a similar one) homework sheets may appear in the exams.

6.       Withdrawal

According to University regulations, the last day to drop a course is:  June 20, 2008
